Day 3 (of 3) of the 2011 High School Journalism Workshop

Today we wrap up the 2011 edition of our High School Journalism Workshop.

The morning started with recording (live to tape) a newscast, finishing up work on the newspaper and website projects, and then skyping with Peter Shaplen from California.

Day 2 of the High School Journalism Workshop

This is the day that 60 high school journalism students spread out through the campus and town to cover their stories.

Robert Werner, from Indiana, PA, volunteered to be interviewed for my demonstration of shooting on Lumix TS-1 cameras and editing with Final Cut.

2011 High School Journalism Workshop gets started

Today is Day 1 of a three-day workshop with more than 60 high school students from Ohio and beyond.

Students are divided into three groups — online journalism, print and broadcast — but they work together across the media platforms in a converged newsroom.

Two Undergrads Win AEJMC Awards

Two undergraduate students in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University won two awards at the international writing contest at the 2011 national Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) convention.

Today I have posted a photo of the 2011 top graduating JSchool seniors — complete with caps and gowns — on the front of our website.

Every year the faculty select top graduating seniors for our sequences, plus an overall top graduating senior. We announce them at our awards banquet. Here’s the script I read at this year’s program.

2011 KTA Lecture by Jonathan Peters

Our inaugural KTA Lecture, “How protected is WikiLeaks?” is available in podcast form for those who missed it.

The lecture was part of this year’s Kappa Tau Alpha induction ceremony. KTA is an honorary society for graduating students in the top-10% of their class.
