2013 Schuneman Symposium to focus on excellence

Every year for the last five years we’ve been privileged to organize the Schuneman Symposium for Photojournalism and New Media. The theme of this year’s symposium, scheduled for Feb. 25-26, is “Excellence: Why it (still) matters.”

Ifill’s speech is co-sponsored by Ohio University’s Emeriti Association, and will be used to mark the 90th anniversary of journalism education at Ohio University.

Grad students return to campus with internship experience under their belt

Masters students Lu Wu and Brendon Butler spent fall semester doing what they love: Covering news for media organizations. But their experiences could not have been more different.

Brendon Butler spent two months reporting from the west African nation of Senegal. The internship with a radio station was funded in part by the school’s John R. Wilhelm Foreign Correspondence Internship Program.

Statehouse News Bureau capstone projects shine light on Obamacare, Ohio prisons

In case you missed them, the capstone projects produced by our three “fellows” taking part in the Statehouse News Bureau program this past fall are worthy of your attention.

Two of the three public affairs projects focused on issues related to Ohio prisons. Michael Locklear, a senior broadcast journalism major, looked at the slow pace of efforts to reduce the prison population in the state as a cost-saving measure.
