PhD student Nick Hirshon to give paper on 1969 Mets

by Michael Sweeney, Professor; Associate Director for Graduate Studies

Nicholas Hirshon, a PhD student in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, has had a paper accepted for presentation at the 2015 Joint Journalism and Communication History Conference in New York City.

Hirshon’s paper is “One More Miracle:
John ‘Mets’ Lindsay and the Race for Mayor of New York City.” It examines how a mayoral candidate attempted to tie his media image to the scrappy, underdog major-league baseball team that had been perpetual losers before becoming world champions in the 1969 season.
