Business journalism: Your ticket to NYC, Wall Street

Next Tuesday (Oct. 5) Professor Mark Tatge and I will host an informational meeting (with free pizza!) for students interested in a New York City business journalism trip scheduled for later this academic year.

The three-day visit is being organized by Professor Tatge, who formerly worked for Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. Tatge teaches two courses in business writing – J439 (winter quarter) and J 440 (spring quarter).

Included in the trip: talks with journalists and editors at Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Fox News, SmartMoney and a host of other media outlets. This is a great opportunity to experience business journalism firsthand, talk to the pros and get course credit.

Our meeting on Tuesday will also be a chance to find out why business writing is one of the fast growing careers in journalism. Scripps graduates who understand business are getting hired despite one of the worst media downturns in 60 years. These students are making more money on average than basic digital, web, print or TV journalists and they have a better chance of advancement.

Pizza and pop are on us.

Questions can be directed to: Mark Tatge, E.W. Scripps Visiting Professional, Room 103, Scripps Hall, 312-550-5122 or
