Meet PhD student Ashley Furrow

After first arriving in Athens a little over a year ago to begin her master’s at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ashley Furrow has already started her work in the Ph.D. program.

Hailing from sunny Sarasota, Fla., Furrow is scheduled to receive her M.S. in December after defending her thesis, “Race and Gender Bias in Editorial and Advertising Photographs and in Sources in Sports Illustrated Kids, 2000-2009.”

Furrow’s goal is to land a job as a journalism professor at the college level. She will live in Athens while she finishes classes, works on her dissertation and teaches.
