JSchool offers first Social Media Summit

This just in: Student leaders from a wide range of publications and journalism organizations here at OU want to use social media to reach bigger audiences, as well as interact with those audiences.

That’s not a particularly startling announcement. But the fact that so many representatives showed up to take part in our first-ever Social Media Summit indicates to me that they’re not only interested in learning more about new communication tools, they’re also willing to learn from each other. Even though in many cases they compete for stories — just like in the “real world.”

Social Media Summit, JSchool

At yesterday’s Social Media Summit, held in the Scripps Hall conference room, members of the JSchool’s social media “swat” team also explained how our new Facebook page and Twitter feed can help publications like The Post, Brick Beat magazine, as well as WOUB News and organizations like Ad Club and PRSSA, recruit high school students planning to study journalism here at OU.

All good.
