Symposium panels to feature documentary makers, recent alums

by Robert Stewart, Director

The two panels included in the 2011 Schuneman Symposium feature (respectively) documentary makers who focus on cancer issues and recent alumni who have followed creative career paths.

In the April 6, 10:10 a.m. panel, moderated by Scripps College of Communication dean, Greg Shepherd, John Kaplan (“Not As I Pictured”) and Casey Hayward (“The Art of the Possible”) will discuss their documentaries, each of which focuses on an aspect of cancer. Kaplan’s film is autobiographical, while Hayward’s examines treatment of cancer in children.

Also on that panel is Dr. Traci Marx from OU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The second panel on Wednesday (3:10-5:00) features six Scripps College alumni, each discussing the path of his or her career since graduating from Ohio University.

> Jessica Beinecke, VOA
> Garrett Downing, WEWS
> Phil Ewing, Politico
> Aaron Reiser, Resource Interactive
> Erica Ryan, NPR
> Lynn Walsh, Texas Watchdog

I will be moderating this panel.
