Burke, Lomonte address workshop attendees

The 2014 High School Journalism Workshop finished up last Saturday with a talk by Deadspin’s Tim Burke (BSJ ’99), the journalist who broke the Mant’i Teo fake girlfriend story in January, 2013.

Compilation of clips from the workshop (by Josh Lim).

Earlier in the week, Frank Lomonte, one of the nation’s leading advocates for student media legal rights, addressed the students.

In addition to serving as executive director for SPLC, Lomonte writes about the First Amendment and other media-based legal issues.

The reporting projects, which include text and video, will be posted on in short order.

Other sessions included a Web design session with Meghan Louttit of The New York Times, editorial writing with syndicated columnist (and JSchool faculty member) Tom Suddes, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Marcy Nighswander (a School of Viscom faculty member), and many others.
