School Employees Retirement System picks new executive director
By Kat Tenbarge
The Columbus Dispatch
(February 17, 2017) — For retired bus drivers, school custodians, cafeteria workers and administrative and educational aides, finding access to health care can be difficult.
Richard Stensrud, as newly appointed executive director of SERS, says he is committed to help.
The School Employees Retirement System of Ohio, a public pension fund for non-teaching school employees, served more than 200,000 recipients with $1.3 billion in pensions and health-care reimbursements.
As executive director, Stensrud is tasked with the accountability for SERS’ overall affairs, as well as investment, operational and financial performance. Before taking over SERS, he served as CEO of the $8 billion Sacramento County Employees’ Retirement System.
“I look forward to working with the board to continue the good work of Lisa Morris and her predecessors,” said Stensrud in a press release.
“My immediate goal is to establish my personal relationship with local and state leaders to continue to strengthen and enhance SERS reputation and brand and remind them of the importance of the work SERS members perform daily in the operation of every public school across Ohio.”
