In November, 2017, the school invited a group of student media leaders to take part in a task force to develop recommendations on keeping students safe during off-campus internships. The following spring, the task force presented its recommendations to the faculty.
The faculty implemented a number of key recommended measures to protect students during their time away from campus when completing internships:
All students completing an off-campus internship will take part in an orientation meeting prior to the internship. During that orientation, students will be notified about the required “touch base” surveys to be completed over the course of the internship. The purpose of these surveys is to give the students on internships a chance to request contact with the school director (or other designated faculty member). The survey links are here:
- Survey #1: Complete during week two of your internship
- Survey #2: Complete during week six of your internship
- Survey #3: Complete during week 10 of your internship
