Education: M.A. Communication, Virginia Tech, 2016; B.A. Communication Studies, University of North Carolina-Wilmington, 2009.

Research: Aaron’s master’s thesis centered on journalism convergence and independent community newspapers, measuring levels of sense of community, and traditional print and web reading habits, with political participation and civic engagement as moderating factors. His research since arriving at Ohio University is thematically linked via the thread of the integration of new and emerging technology into news reporting. His dissertation examines the effects of headset-based 360-degree video and narrative news content on a news audience. Aaron has presented and moderated at numerous national and regional conferences, including Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, National Communication Association, Appalachian Studies Association, and others. He is the 2018-19 chair of the AEJMC Graduate Student Interest Group.

Teaching areas: Aaron has taught a variety of undergraduate courses pertaining to both theoretical and applied journalism practices, including Multiplatform Reporting and Writing, Media Literacy, and digital journalism.

Professional experience: Aaron worked as a freelance editor in Denver and worked as a reporter for The Sheridan Press, a community daily newspaper in Sheridan, Wyoming, for two years. He also freelanced and copy-edited for a metro daily in Montgomery County and Radford, Virginia.
