Jeff Grayson joined the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism as an adjunct professor in Winter 2019.

His background includes serving as a media relations coordinator and public information officer for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Department of Public Safety for approximately 20 years. He currently works for the Ohio State Highway Patrol in the State’s Fusion Center as the Product Development Coordinator and with Ohio Homeland Security as State Security Point of Contact with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In his communications positions, he coordinated media interviews for the Director of Public Safety, Patrol Superintendent and executive staff. Additionally, he coordinated communications strategies during critical incidents and high-profile media stories.

He also developed extensive instructing experience in media relations, including crisis communications, to Ohio State Highway Patrol supervisors and outside law enforcement personnel. Additionally, he wrote media releases, speeches and articles for publication, and developed and presented multi-media presentations for the Public Safety Director, and other Ohio government officials.

During 2013-2018, he coordinated special projects for the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Director’s Office, representing six divisions and its nearly 4,000 employees. In that capacity, he implemented program and policy directives statewide, and coordinated internal/external communications with the Department Communications Director and division public information officers.

Prior to working with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, he worked as a television news and sports producer for stations in Grand Junction, Colorado, and Columbus, Ohio.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Media Arts from the University of Arizona in 1991, and a master’s degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University in 1994.
