Teaching Areas: Has taught journalism and communication at Western Kentucky University, University of Akron, Youngstown State University, Thiel College, and Ohio University.
Professional Experience: Veteran of the newspaper industry starting his career at the Bowling Green (OH) Sentinel Tribune as an agriculture reporter. From there he went to Madisonville, Texas where he was the associate editor for The Meteor, a small weekly publication. The Courier of Montgomery County then hired Burton where he covered business, local government, sports, and a number of other topics. His next position was police and courts reporter for the Bowling Green (KY) Daily News where he reported on police and court activity for seven counties. Burton was then hired as the news editor at the Glasgow Daily Times where he oversaw the reporters, edited content, designed pages, and wrote opinion pieces. He then became a business reporter at the Youngstown Vindicator where he covered General Motors and the burgeoning fracking industry in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
