Prof. Nerissa Young contributes to high school journalism textbook
On behalf of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Journalism Education Committee, Scripps Prof. Nerissa Young contributed a body of research to a book titled Still Captive? History, Law and the Teaching of High School Journalism, which was published in late March 2015.
Coordinated by Prof. Rebecca Tallent of the University of Idaho School of Journalism and Mass Media, the book explores a variety of issues facing instructors ability to teach news literacy, journalistic style and form, and current events.
Young is among 14 professors who contributed to the book, which is as much an advocate of journalism education, as it is a forewarner of the consequences of a potential downfall, and an exhortation of the belief that the field will survive well into the coming century.
