The Investigative Fund seeks a Managing Editor

The Investigative Fund is a nonprofit newsroom for independent journalists, dedicated to incubating investigative reporting with the potential for social impact. Our investigations are published or broadcast in partnership with a wide variety of print, broadcast and online outlets. Investigative Fund stories have sparked FBI investigations, Congressional inquiries, federal indictments, the resignation of public officials, and more; they have also won many of journalism’s top awards, including the Emmy, the Polk Award, the National Magazine Award, and the Investigative Reporters & Editors Medal.

The Investigative Fund is a project of The Nation Institute, a nonprofit media center that is also home to a bestselling book publishing imprint, Nation Books; the widely syndicated website TomDispatch; the Victor S. Navasky Internship Program; and a Journalism Fellowship program that supports dozens of reporters every year.

The position:

The Investigative Fund seeks a full-time Managing Editor to join our small, dedicated team of investigative journalists and strengthen our workflow. For this newly created position, we’re looking for someone with experience editing and vetting complex feature-length work; with strong organizational skills, sound editorial judgment, and sophistication about social media.

Responsibilities:
—A part-time editorial load, commissioning, editing, and overseeing stories
—Communications, including overseeing editorial messaging for our outside PR firm, project emails, and on social media
—Managing web production
—Administration, including managing editorial meetings; project budget; and relationships with contractors, such as freelance fact checkers
—Development, including liaising with the Nation Institute’s development team and providing editorial input into proposal writing and grant reporting
