Opening for Business Beat News Producer at South Dakota Public Broadcasting

South Dakota Public Broadcasting is looking for a business beat news producer who can develop, record, and edit news stories, features, and full-length documentaries. Assignments may be for radio, television and/or online. This position will focus on a business and community development beat that looks at how the people of South Dakota make a living. A successful candidate will know how to research, find stories, and go beyond a press release. They will also be someone who is trusted, a good listener, a good communicator, and believable.

Travel is required for this position. Work schedule may include occasional nights, weekends and holidays.

Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
-A degree in Journalism, Contemporary Media or a related field and/or related experience is preferred.

Knowledge of:
-practices, principles, and techniques of production
-digital editing systems
-social media tools and web content management systems
-journalism standards and practices
-announcement techniques
-broadcast writing
-public broadcasting mission and ethics.

Ability to:
-meet deadlines
-take direction
-follow the editing process
-communicate clearly and concisely both in person and on-air
-plan and direct research
-identify program needs
-establish and maintain effective working relationships with sources and co-workers
-operate media production equipment
-maintain a consistent, high level of productivity
-work without direct supervision
-be self-motivated
-be persistent when facing obstacles or setbacks.
