PR Internship position with Athens County Children Services

Athens County Children Services’ mission is to provide protection, care, and perma-nency for children who are abused, neglected, or dependent. Our practices are based on state and federal laws as well as the fundamental principle that each child has the right to grow and develop with his or her own family in a safe, nurturing, and stable home. Our agency is committed to child protection, community awareness, parent education, and other services designed to reduce the number of families in need of our protective services. Athens County Children Services provides a wide variety of prevention and supportive services designed to keep children safe and to strengthen families. We strongly believe that children living in a safe, stable, and nurturing family environment have the greatest chance of growing into productive, contributing members of the community.

An unpaid internship position is available to assist the Public Information Coordinator in managing a comprehensive information and public relations program for Athens County Children Services.

Normal agency operation is between the hours of 8:30-4:30 Monday thru Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be requested for special events.


Task 1: Writing news releases and special feature articles on agency events, services, and programs

Task 2. Designing, editing, and producing brochures, newsletters, presentations, and publications.

Task 3. Developing agency advertising/promotion campaigns.

Task 4. Maintaining and updating agency website.

Task 5. Organizing involvement in various community events and activities.

Task 6. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.


1. Some knowledge of news media organization, structure, and ethics;journalistic techniques, terminology, and style.

2. Some knowledge of audiovisual production, photography, and layout.

3. Strong verbal, writing, interpersonal communication, and computer skills.

4. Ability to work with diverse groups.

5. Skilled in various word processing and graphic design programs, including Adobe Creative Suite.

6. Maturity to deal with hours and varied aspects of job.
