ODPS Web Design

Ohio Department of Public Safety is seeking a Web/Graphic Designer Intern. This internship is a paid position and intern is responsible for design and enhancements of the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s various websites in alignment with strategies and direction and will collaborate with DPS Communications staff and stakeholders to determine website needs.


- Evaluate source materials and obtain additional information

- Accurately interpret strategic and creative requirements

- Evaluate time required and meet specified deadlines

- Critique designs and solicit feedback

- Present work for approval, negotiate changes, and correct and revise

- Contribute to development of brands, identity and style

- Determine and recommend new technologies to utilize

- Conceptualize long-term needs of web development

- Plan and manage related projects

- Design and construct web pages using HTML and CS and page layouts for publications

- Animation, integrating video and audio preferred

- Available minimum 20 hrs/week (max. 40)

- Shifts from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Columbus, OH with flexible hours

- Fall and winter semester: 16 hours a week or two 8-hour days


- Junior, Senior or Graduate student in good standing

- Scripps College of Communication student preferred

- Must be enrolled in college/university

- Must be good standing

-Have a minimum GPA of 2.0

- Be enrolled in at least one course

- Pursuing a degree or finishing a degree

- Experience in Web Design and interactive information design

- Degree study in Web Design, Graphic Design, Fine Arts or related field

- Must be able to work in a creative team environment

- Excellent time management and organizational skills

- Experience in navigation, user interface design and usability principles

- Knowledge of Web page layout principles, limitations and constraints

- A strong eye for detail

- Proficient in Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator

- Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Pro Proficient in HTML and CS

- Familiar with digital media

- Knowledge of media strategy and planning options

- Knowledge of media role in integrated communication

- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

- Experience writing, editing and crafting content for online experience

Each intern will receive a records check and BCI fingerprint check.

OPDS also offers stipends to all interns.
