Grist Justice Fellowship

The Grist Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity to hone your skills at a national news outlet and deepen your understanding of environmental issues. We’re looking for early-career journalists with a variety of skills, from traditional reporting to multimedia “whizbangery.” We will offer exposure to the leading sustainability thinkers and innovators of our time, real-world experience at a fast-paced news site, and the occasional homemade croissant.

Responsibilities:

- Work full-time, making daily contributions to Grist’s editorial operations (reporting, research, story ideas, writing, and creative experiments, etc.)

- Write quick news updates, newsletter blurbs, and reported stories

- Identify a long-term special project to produce in collaboration with others on the team

- Encouraged to participate in staff discussions and meeting

- Seek input on issues large and small

Requirements:

- minimum 6-month commitment

- Work in Seattle office or remotely (although you’ll have to make your own croissants)

- Early-career journalist, reporter, and/pr editor (most likely college or j-school grads with some experience)

This fellowship pays $2750/month

To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter, and three writing samples, plus: write a news post, pitch a mini-feature about a community doing “model work,” and a pitch called “What’s your big idea?” Include all in a PDF attachment in an email with the subject “News Fellow” to fellowships@grist.org
