Are you thinking Arby's? The Ohio University Advertising Association will be when Chuck Borghese, group creative director for DDB Worldwide and 1981 graduate of Ohio University, will speak about his experience creating the award-winning Arby's campaign. Borghese is into his third decade of creating well-known advertisements for brands such as Breyer's, Mercedes-Benz, the Ad Council and more. Borghese's speech, titled "Arby's: One Idea," will touch on his experience in the industry and how to be successful as a creative advertising executive.

In celebration of Ethics in Journalism Week, there will be a double

feature film fest outside at the Scripps amphitheatre. There will be free ice cream/root beer floats.

Then at 8 p.m. watch the movie

The Paper ("Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"), followed by,

at approximately 9:30 p.m., Network ("Not since the dawn of time has America experiences a man like

Howard Beale!").

If it rains, it will be moved to Scripps 111). The event is free, but there will be popcorn and sodas sold as a fundraiser.

Duane Valz, Esq., Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Global Patent Strategy at Yahoo! Inc. will be speaking on property rights of content providers in the age of the Internet and the implications of media professionals. Valz leads a team of attorneys and engineers responsible for Yahoo’s worldwide invention harvesting, patent filings and portfolio management. His expertise includes intellectual property-related litigation, licensing, Internet policy and strategic corporate development.

On Journalism Day, we celebrate our nation's rich traditions, but we also focus on issues surrounding technological and other innovations in the media.

Tickets are $12.00 for students and $16.00 for non-students. You may purchase your ticket from Debbie DePeel in Scripps 106 until 4 p.m. April 25.

If you have been offered an internship this summer and you need financial assistance, you are eligible to apply for a $3,000 grant to help pay for your expenses from the Scripps College of Communication?s Don Perris Endowed Scholarship-Internship Fund.

To apply you must provide:

• Written confirmation of your internship offer (a letter or e-mail from the company extending you the offer)

• Letter of application explaining why the internship is important to your career goals and your communication-related extracurricular involvement (i.e., student media organizations, previous internships, etc.)

• Budget outlining your projected living expenses for this internship (demonstration of financial need)

• Copy of your current DARS

• Current resume that includes address, phone number and e-mail

• Work samples (optional)

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, April 21, 2008 by 5 p.m.

Scholarship winners will be announced at the Scripps College of Communication Celebration, May 9, 2008. Please note that internship funds will not be available until after July 1, 2008.

After completing their internships, students who have been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Don Perris Endowed Scholarship-Internship Fund will also receive an additional $1,000 scholarship for the following school year.

The event lasts until 5 p.m.

There will be elections for next year's executive board.

The event will feature:

Two campus bands

DJ

Food and drink

Large screen for TV reports and several smaller monitors for people to crowd around in more intimate groups.

Andrea Michnik, the Executive Assistant for the Semester in the Washington Journalism program at George Washington University, will be visiting Ohio University on March 6, 2008. She helps run a program out of The George Washington University called the Semester in Washington Journalism Program.

She would like to visit with students in order to give them a better look at the program features. She will be speaking in Scripps 111 at 5:00 pm on March 6, 2008 If she does not speak to one of your classes please sign up to hear her in Scripps 111. Sign up sheets will be in Lasher.

Speakeasy Magazine and ACRN will be hosting My So-Called Party, a '90s-themed dance party benefit, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at The Union. Come wearing your favorite '90s-wear or dressed as your favorite '90s icon!

Admission is $3 for 21 and over and $4 for under 21, but from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday, Speakeasy PR team members will be handing out slap bracelets worth $1 off admission in Baker Center.

This year's Journalism Day & Awards Banquet will be held Wednesday, April 30th. The theme, "Pushing the First Amendment Envelope," will allow us to explore how the evolution of media platforms affects the media industry.

One of the high points of last year's Journalism Day was student participation. Some of you contributed ideas for the program and shared your research in panels and the poster session. We would like to have your input again this year.

If you have any ideas for panels/topics or speakers that might be appropriate for Journalism Day, send an e-mail by Thursday, February 28th.
