Tatge’s Media Works course links journalism and business (video)

How does the national media really work? We know what the textbooks say. But this Fall, E.W. Scripps Visiting Professional Mark Tatge will give students a window into the workings at newsrooms at some of the nation’s top publications -- the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, the New York Times.

In an attempt to influence the media, companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars on bad advertising, mindless PR releases and crisis planning. Much of it represents money poured down the drain. This course explores the reasons why corporate America has yet to understand how journalists think and how they do their jobs. We will explore the consequences and possible solutions to this perennial problem, a situation that threatens to only get worse with advances in technology.
